Burnout isn't just wellbeing. It's a delivery constraint.
When managers are overloaded, you don't just lose energy—you lose decision speed, ownership, and execution flow. Escalations rise. Meeting load grows. Teams wait for clarity.
Journey to "Beat Burnout"
Join Jimmy Burroughes as he shares the journey behind writing Beat Burnout, offering insights and lessons to help leaders thrive without sacrificing well-being.
What You'll Discover Inside
5 research-backed variables that drive high-performance cultures while preventing burnout.
Discover how to find clarity on what matters so priorities don't churn. Learn why purpose and authenticity are intertwined, and how finding your personal purpose leads to a new level of authenticity.
"Have you ever stopped to think about the concept of doing something "on purpose"? Many of us might associate this phrase with simply being intentional, but there is so much more to it, especially when it comes to building a team culture that is driven by purpose."
Move from scarcity-driven firefighting to sustainable execution. Understand how abundance mindset activates your "wizard" brain versus the reactive "lizard" brain.
"The scarcity-driven individual sees modern work events as threats or stresses. They become focused on conserving seemingly insufficient resources, avoiding risk, and surviving. Abundant leaders focus on playing to win, versus playing not to lose."
Build trust as an operational input, not a fluffy value. Create micro-moments of human connection that flood your team with oxytocin instead of cortisol.
"When we know we are part of a tribe, and we know how to tap into the information we need to help us solve problems, we can perform better. Connection is about allowing people to enter a state of clarity, certainty, agility, and innovation."
Develop judgement and options under pressure. Understand why the highest burnout rates are in mid-senior roles and how to combat "hamster wheel" syndrome.
"Those who explore more are much more likely to stay the course, versus those exploiting the same skills repeatedly. It is the exploration of the unknown which keeps us fresh and rewards us with a sense of achievement."
Use recovery as a performance enabler for better decisions. Learn why taking breaks actually activates the Default Mode Network (DMN) for improved creativity and problem-solving.
"Research in neuroscience has shown that taking breaks from focused tasks can improve cognitive functions, leading to enhanced creativity, problem-solving, and memory consolidation. Stress plus rest equals growth."
A Glimpse from Chapter 1:Purpose
The foundation of sustainable high performance starts with understanding why you do what you do.
Have you ever stopped to think about the concept of doing something 'on purpose'? Many of us might associate this phrase with simply being intentional, but there is so much more to it, especially when it comes to building a team culture that is driven by purpose.
For me, purpose and authenticity are intertwined. Finding my own personal purpose was a journey of self-discovery that allowed me to step into a new level of authenticity that I had been seeking for years.
I believe that each of us has a light or energy inside us, and the universe is made up of energy. For things to be easy, authentic, and on purpose, that energy needs to flow freely. To be seen as authentic, your light needs to shine bright and not be obscured or covered up.

Who this is for
This book is useful when you're seeing:
Managers acting as the "hub" (everything routes through them)
Slow decisions and repeat escalations
Cross-functional friction and unclear ownership
Meeting sprawl and constant churn
Good leaders stuck too deep in the weeds
How this connects to JBL programmes
Many HR and OD leaders use the book as:
A shared language for overloaded managers ("decision friction", "dependency", "operational noise")
A pre-read or reinforcement tool alongside the 6-Week Reset or Amplify programmes
A credible way to support leaders without launching a large programme
